Spring Update on Favor Tree Farms
Happy Spring! Is this not the best time of the year or what? Yes, it is! Days are longer and the sun seems to shine brighter. What I love the most here on the farm is the transition period, the trees are filling out in all shades of lovely greens, and our fruit trees are blossoming again right on schedule and all the butterflies are back.

What’s new on Favor Tree Farms?
We’ve started planting indoors.
Although the season has just begun, we have been planting indoors and now the seedlings are shining through and growing strong. So far, we have planted okra, peppers, tomatoes, cabbage, broccoli, and cucumbers. To our delight our strawberries, chocolate peppermint, and comfrey from last season have returned.

Learning to use our greenhouse.
On the farm my husband and I each have our jobs, and this keeps our small farm running smoothly. In our neighborhood you can hear everyone out and about with all the spring sounds of mowing lawns, and trimming bushes.
I’m very excited because this is the first year I have used a greenhouse full time. Last year we had a very small portable greenhouse, and it didn’t go so well with my seedlings, so I pretty much used the greenhouse as a place of storage where I put all my garden tools.

However, this year I asked more questions. I learned more about using the greenhouse and I’m happy to announce that so far things are going very well. I started seedlings in my greenhouse and my seedlings are abundant. Every year it is my intention to try something new or to incorporate something different on the farm. No matter how long you do something, there’s always room for growth and improvement.
Last Minute Tips
Are you making plans to grow some food this spring? It can be done, you know. You can start with an herb garden. Here are a few simple herbs you can start in pots with limited to no experience; peppermint, oregano, basil, sage, parsley, and thyme.
You can easily start these herbs in containers because they come in all sizes and all shapes, and they can easily be moved around. Feel free to start your herbs indoors and as they grow you can move them outdoors, especially as the weather continues to warm up.

Growing in containers also cuts down on the weeds and maintenance. In addition, it offers a viable option if you have limited space indoors or outdoors. Whichever food and or method just start and watch as your herbs grow and blossom.
Happy spring! Let the fun begin!
